The Specialist Assessment

What Is External Cervical Resorption?

External cervical resorption occurs when specialised cells begin breaking down the outer surface of the tooth near the gum line. If left untreated, the damage can progress, weakening the tooth and eventually leading to tooth loss. The condition is often difficult to detect in its early stages and usually requires specialist imaging and examination.

Why Does a Post Need Removing?

A perforation occurs when an opening develops through the side or floor of a tooth, creating communication with the surrounding bone or gum tissue. This can happen when canals are extremely small or difficult to locate during treatment.

If left untreated, bacteria can enter through the perforation, increasing the risk of infection and reducing the long term prognosis of the tooth.

Advanced Diagnosis and Treatment

Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) together with a Dental Operating Microscope, Dr Robert Eades can accurately assess the extent of the resorption and develop the most appropriate treatment plan. Every effort is made to preserve healthy tooth structure while removing diseased tissue and restoring the tooth.
